Dear Families,
Welcome to second grade in Room 227. The 2013-2014 school year is a historic one. When the doors of Earl Shapiro Hall open on September 9, 2013, your children will be among the first young learners to explore, wonder, imagine, play, laugh, construct, and learn in our new Nursery-2nd grade building. It’s exciting to think about all the new traditions and memories we will create together.
My name is Lisa Harrison and it is my pleasure to welcome a new group of second grade children and parents to my classroom for the 16th time. Joining me will be Ms. Heidi Holladay. Heidi has been my teaching partner for the last five school years and we are both looking forward to her new, full-time schedule in the classroom.
This is the first of many newsletters that you will receive throughout this school year. Newsletters will be posted on our class website at the end of each week and will contain news about classroom events and studies, answers to questions we may have received, and other important information. There is always something happening in our classroom and not enough time or space to include it all in a newsletter. To keep you informed, we will post regularly to a classroom blog on the website www.daysin2ndgrade.weebly.com, and almost daily to our class Twitter account. We hope you will “follow” along on Twitter @daysin2ndgrade!
We have a busy schedule in second grade. Make sure your child starts each day off right with a good breakfast, and please pack a healthy lunch and snack to bring to school every day. Your child will have Music three days a week with Ms. Schlieker, Art two days a week with Ms. Mazurek, Library twice a week for book check-out and story, Computer once a week with Ms. Putman and P.E. four days a week with Ms. Vandevelde. Don’t forget those gym shoes!
More details about our routine and schedule will be sent home the first week of school. Information on arrival and dismissal at Shapiro Hall will be included in a separate document. Also, please save the date for Parent Night on Tuesday, September 17th at 6:30 p.m. We look forward to sharing details about our curriculum and the year ahead.
Our classroom door opens at 8:20 a.m. and school begins at 8:30 a.m. You are welcome to spend the first 10-15 minutes in the classroom helping your child get settled on the first day of school. We can’t wait to meet you and your second grader!
Enjoy the rest of the summer. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. See you soon!
Sincerely,
Ms. Lisa Harrison
