UPCOMING EVENTS
Our end-of-year countdown has begun and we have many events and activities planned for this week and next! Our trip to the Ronald McDonald House yesterday was a great learning experience and we plan on holding our walk-a-thon this Thursday, rain or shine. See below for more details.
As the end of the year approaches, we are busy trying to finish projects, assess learning, and enjoy the last moments together. Newsletters will be sent one more time next week. Please continue to see our twitter feed for daily updates and classroom happenings.
RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE/KINDNESS FUNDRAISER
On Thursday, June 4th, we will walk with our Kindergarten Buddies to the Point to help raise money for the Ronald McDonald House that supports the University of Chicago Hospitals. We plan on going rain or shine. The walk is about 1.5 miles roundtrip! Ronald McDonald himself will come to the ESH to send us off! We are asking our students to get "sponsors" for the walk. Attached you will find a pledge form and we ask that it and the donations be returned to school by June 9th. This form was also sent home yesterday. Checks are the preferred method of payment and can be made payable to the Ronald McDonald House. Please make sure your child has a picnic lunch with water bottle for Thursday and a small, lightweight backpack to carry it in. Your child should also wear comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather, and an umbrella in case of rain. Sunscreen/sun hats are strongly recommended. All parents are welcome to join us and we have already heard from a few of you. Just let Ms. Harrison know. The time has shifted slightly and we will depart at 10:45 and return by 12:30ish. We had to accommodate Ronald McDonald's busy schedule!

PIONEERS
Last week, the children learned about pioneer games with Mr. Wilson. They learned to play marbles and trundle (stick) and hoop. Each child took home 4 marbles to keep! We also visited the one-room school house of Ms. Bickelstaff (aka Mrs. Marinho). Each children learned what it was like to have such a strict teacher and many of them wrote about it in the Family Message Journal. Ms. Atiya was even put in the corner with a dunce cap! Please see the Pioneer photo gallery for more lovely photographs from the school room.
Our wagon trains continues making its way toward Oregon. We have visited Fort Kearney and are approaching Chimney Rock. Yesterday, the children learned all about buffalo and covered wagons from Ms. Johnson. They even got to try beef jerky (the closest thing we have to dried buffalo meat) and dried apples. The children continue to be very engaged with writing in their pioneer journals and we will work hard the next week so we can reach Oregon!
