GREAT BEGINNINGS
It was a busy week getting to know one another as we settled into our second grade routine. On the first day of school, many children admitted to having “butterflies in their stomachs.” As the week progressed, we learned more about one another and second grade didn’t seem so scary after all! We are off to a great start and look forward to a wonderful new school year.
Last week, the children worked on self-portraits, went on a scavenger hunt in our classroom library, played Get-to-Know-You Bingo, and enjoyed a wonderful trip to Radke's Apple Orchard. Thank you to the parent chaperones for all of their help! If you have any photographs to share, please email them (large size) to me so we can add them to our website. Be sure to see the Gallery for all the highlights from our first week of school, including the field trip. We’re looking forward to telling you more about second grade at Parents' Night this Wednesday.
CONFERENCE SIGN-UP
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, October 8th and Monday, October 15th. Look for an email later this week describing how you can sign up online. We will not post a sign-up sheet in the classroom. We’re hoping everyone will find the online system easy and convenient.
PRETZEL DAY
The first Pretzel Day will take this Thursday and every Thursday throughout the year. Your child can bring $1.25 to our class to order a delicious pretzel that will be delivered before lunch. The money earned throughout the year supports the German Exchange Program.
MATH TOOLS NEEDED
As a part of your child’s math tool kit, he/she needs a collection of coins. These coins will be used throughout the year during math time as we learn to add coins together or make change. Please send the following coins to school in a small ziplock bag, labeled with your child’s name by next Monday, September 24th. We will return them at the end of the year:
20 pennies 10 dimes 5 nickels 4 quarters
BLAINE309.COM
We hope that you have all had the chance to explore our classroom website. Here you will find answers to many questions, a blog (the HOME page) that contains frequent updates about classroom happenings, photo & student work galleries, weekly newsletters, and more! We have already shown the children the FOR KIDS page which contains several child-friendly, safe, educational sites for them to explore. We welcome feedback on blaine309.com and hope to get the children more involved in it as the year progresses.
We wish those of you who are observing Rosh Hashanah a memorable family celebration. Have a great week!
